First American edition of this French siddur as translated by Hester Rothschild, and edited by Isaac Leeser with his 5-page preface. The household prayers and meditations include a section on "The Mission of Israel" (pages 224-230). On the title page below "Revised and corrected by Isaac Leeser," an early owner who did not approve of his contributions has added in pencil: "and mutilated and destroyed by him." Pencil notes in the same hand attempt to correct the perceived errors (see especially pages 12 and 204). Singerman 1832. None of this first edition traced at auction since a Swann sale, 3 February 1983, lot 57.
